Word Hero

Snook Studios LLC makes Word Hero, a spelling app for iPhone and iPad. It runs on iOS 17 or later. The App Store name is Word Hero. The bundle id is com.spellingaid.app.

No account

Word Hero has no account and no sign-in.

On this device

Word lists stay on the device. A finished quiz stays on the device too: the date, the list name at the time, the score, and each miss (the expected spelling and what was typed). Study results are not saved. A quiz left before the end is not saved.

Deleting a word list leaves quiz history in place. One quiz can be deleted from Quiz review.

The chosen voice and speaking speed stay on the device.

Deleting the app removes the lists, quiz history, and voice settings stored in it.

Speech

Speech is on-device Kokoro. The spoken phrase is generated on the device. Words are not sent to a speech server. Word Hero does not use the microphone and does not ask for microphone access.

Ads

Ads are Google ads, through Google Mobile Ads.

Requests are child-directed and non-personalized. There is no App Tracking Transparency prompt. Word Hero does not track a child across other companies’ apps and websites. The privacy manifest sets tracking off (NSPrivacyTracking is false).

• A banner appears only at the top of the word-list screen. The Study and Quiz screens do not show it.
• A short video plays after a finished study list and after a finished quiz. It does not play during Study or Quiz. If another video played in the last 3 minutes, the next one is skipped.
• Ad content is limited to a general audience.

The remove-ads purchase below is meant to turn the banner and the video off.

Data the privacy manifest lists

The app privacy manifest lists only the types below. They match Google Mobile Ads SDK 13.11.0. Word Hero does not declare any other collected data types. Spelling words, list names, and quiz scores are not uploaded for ads.

Use these same types for the App Store privacy answers.

Linked to the user (App Store: Data Linked to You)

• Coarse Location. Purposes: Third-Party Advertising, Analytics, and Developer’s Advertising or Marketing. The tracking flag for this type is off. Word Hero does not ask for location access.
• Advertising Data. Purposes: Third-Party Advertising, Developer’s Advertising or Marketing, and Analytics. The tracking flag for this type is off.
• Product Interaction. Purposes: Analytics, Developer’s Advertising or Marketing, and Third-Party Advertising. The tracking flag for this type is off.
• Device ID. Purposes: Third-Party Advertising, Analytics, and Developer’s Advertising or Marketing. The tracking flag for this type is on, matching the Google Mobile Ads SDK. App-level tracking stays off: Word Hero does not track a child across other companies’ apps and websites, and it does not ask for permission to do so. This flag reflects Google Mobile Ads SDK’s own declaration: Word Hero requests are child-directed and non-personalized, and the app never requests ATT permission.

Not linked to the user (App Store: Data Not Linked to You)

• Other Diagnostic Data. Purposes: Third-Party Advertising, Developer’s Advertising or Marketing, and Analytics. The tracking flag for this type is off.
• Performance Data. Purposes: Third-Party Advertising, Developer’s Advertising or Marketing, and Analytics. The tracking flag for this type is off.
• Crash Data. Purpose: Analytics. The tracking flag for this type is off.

“Developer’s Advertising or Marketing” is the purpose name in the privacy manifest. Snook Studios LLC does not collect an email address for its own marketing.

The manifest also allows checks of on-device settings, the time since the device last started, and available storage. Those are system checks for the app and the ads software. They are not extra collected data types.

The app includes Apple’s SKAdNetwork list for Google ads, so ad measurement can go through Apple.

Remove ads

This purchase is not on the App Store yet. The notes below are the intended behavior, not a purchase you can make today.

• One-time, non-consumable purchase.
• Product id: com.spellingaid.app.removeads
• Intended price: $7.99. The App Store shows the price before anyone pays.
• Family Sharing is intended to be on.
• It is meant to remove the word-list banner and the video after a finished study list or quiz.
• The buy button and Restore Purchases are on the Review screen (home screen, then Review).
• Apple handles the payment. Word Hero does not receive a card number. The App Store is the record of the purchase.
• Restore Purchases uses the Apple ID that bought it. After the app is deleted and installed again, that is how the ads are meant to stay off.

Children

The App Store category is Education. Made for Kids is off. Ads stay child-directed anyway: non-personalized, and limited to a general audience.

Children’s privacy

Word Hero is designed for children. Snook Studios LLC does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads are served as child-directed and non-personalized, per COPPA, via Google’s tag for child-directed treatment. A parent can contact snookstudiosllc@outlook.com to ask a question or to request deletion of any information. Snook Studios LLC holds no data from the app, because word lists, quiz history, and voice settings stay on the device.
